    Liturgy Committee
    • The Liturgy Committee is devoted to nourishing and providing direction for the liturgical aspects of parish life. The committee seeks to insure that parishioners are provided with opportunities to deepen their faith through a variety of prayer experiences and liturgical celebrations that are both inclusive and intelligible.

Members of the committee include representatives of the various liturgical ministries and cultural groups, as well as others with a passion for liturgy well celebrated. In our discussions we seek to listen to the needs and concerns of the community in discerning choices that will promote "full and active participation" of the community in our liturgy - no small task given our diversity!

    Eucharistic Ministers
    • Yours is the work of ministering Christ’s body and blood to the body of Christ, the church. You minister holy food to holy people in the holiest of all communions.

Eucharistic ministers are men and women who assist the priests and deacons at the Sunday and weekday liturgies. We have a visitation team which is dedicated to ministering to homebound parishioners.  Called by the Church to serve, we range in age from eighteen to eighty-something and are single, married, and married couples.

We in this ministry reflect and actualize the words of the parish mission statement: "...believes in Jesus Christ, is nourished by the Eucharist, seeks a deeper understanding of Jesus' Gospel and strives to be an effective sign of Jesus’ presence within our society."

If you are interested in ministering as a Eucharistic minister, please call or email the parish office.

      A Prayer For Eucharistic Ministers

Jesus, bless these hands you have chosen as your tools.
Jesus, always keep us aware and in awe of our sacred mission.
Jesus, make us worthy of this great ministry we have humbly accepted.
Jesus, send us out into the world to distribute your love.

    Lectors
    • Shortly after the community gathers for worship, it is called to listen to God speak through the Scriptures. In practical terms, lectors are the storytellers of the faith community. Along with the priest-presider, they proclaim the story of salvation at our Lord's Day and weekday masses. The lector's ministry is no less than the task of making God present in the liturgy of the Word.

When the Word of God is proclaimed in the assembly, it challenges and comforts, encourages and admonishes. The lector's ministry is to proclaim a living Word, not simply words on a page. When the assembly hears the scriptures, it becomes part of the story that is told. The gathered community becomes part of the chosen people of God, struggling to understand God and ourselves, striving to be faithful, repenting when failings happen. The assembly members are disciples of Jesus, following him and learning from his teachings. The Word shapes human lives, teaches, changes peoples' lives, and brings the assembled Church into an encounter with God.

In the liturgy, the parish community depends on the lectors and Gospel readers to mediate an encounter with God. The job of making God present is an awesome responsibility, one that requires commitment and time.

If you are interested in ministering as a lector, please call or email the parish office.

    Altar Society

    • For us at St. Camillus, the church is our home, our spiritual home, and as will all homes, it needs someone to take care of it.  That is the main function of the Altar Society: to keep "Our home, the Lord's Home" beautiful.

The society assists in the physical care of the altar and its furnishings. The society distributes the tasks among the members, including changing and laundering altar linens, cleaning Holy water fonts, and caring for plants.

If you are interested in helping with any of these tasks, please contact Sandra Perez in our office at 301 434-8400.

    Altar Servers
    • Young people have the opportunity to be involved in an important way in our parish liturgies. As Altar Servers, they assist the presider at the altar at all weekend liturgies, weddings and special liturgical events throughout the year.

This ministry is open to all interested young people - who have made their first communion. While growing closer to God in one’s own life, it also offers an opportunity to understand the rewards of service toward others and their community.

To become an Altar Server or to offer your assistance in training or chaperoning Altar Servers or for further information, please contact Ottoniel Perez at [email protected] or Julie Sarwatt [email protected]

    Hospitality

    • One of the keys to beautiful liturgy here at St. Camillus are the men and women who serve as our Ministers of Hospitality.  Perhaps you would be willing to help create a welcoming atmosphere and assist in practical matters of worship before, during, and after Mass?

Arrive 15 minutes before Mass to seat parishioners; recruit and help families to carry gifts at the offertory procession; pass the collection baskets; guide orderly flow at communion time; maintain security; help distribute the Sunday bulletin and other approved handouts after Mass; and tidy up the church when done.

For more information contact the office at 301-434-8400

    Art & Environment Committee

    • The committee comes together several times throughout the year to enhance the seasonal beauty of our worship space.  Special attention is given to seasons of Christmas and Easter.  The coordinator of this ministry designs the scheme for decorating and assists the team in accomplishing its goal, a beautifully decorated church.  There is a task for everyone, so don’t exclude yourself.  This ministry is a great family and community opportunity.

If interested in sharing your gifts, email Sandra Perez at [email protected]

    Parking Ministry
    • At first you might wonder why parking is a liturgical ministry.  Well, if you think about a ministry as something that allows you to enter into the liturgical experience-parking is definitely a ministry here at St Camillus.

With nonstop masses from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., thousands of people, hundreds of cars and over 800 children in religious education, most of us would find ourselves stuck in a very long line on New Hampshire Avenue if it were not for the generosity of these men and woman who volunteer once every six weeks to help direct traffic. Their stewardship assures that the peace and tranquility in which we hopefully leave our church isn't left in a traffic jam in the parking lot.  If you are interested in helping out, especially between 9:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. just stop by or call the religious education office.  And when you pass one of them, don't forget to say thank you for this special gift.
